Introduction
Welcome! But before you start this journey of no return, I would like to have a few words.
- This list of 1000 short films is compiled from various lists along with my own list. Each has a 50% weight in the first 500 films. Since there is not enough data for films after the first 500, the second half (501-1000) is almost entirely based my own research.
- There are 44 new entries in Top 250 and 112 new entries in Top 500. (See the previous version)
- The symbols next to the title indicate which lists a film is compiled from. I have included symbols for lists that have the most weight in calculation:

= in Annecy International Festival's Top 100 Animated Shorts
= in Jonathan Rosenbaum's 1000 Essential Films, (Book)
= in Brief Encounters, an unfinished TSPDT list

...and many more unlisted sources - Selecting criterion for Top 1000 Short Films:
Running time: < 40min (in intended projection speed), or
TV series with average length per episode < 10min. - Film series with sequals or prequals are compiled as one film if:
(a) the storyline is continuous, or
(b) the theme is continuous, or
(c) the official titles are in numerical order. - The reviews are shortened to just one line, with poetry added.
- Poetry is drawn upon my first impression of the film, and is being updated constantly.
For citations of the poems, please see instructions. - Films with running time between 40min and 60min are included in On-The-Verge, so look for Simon of the Desert (1965), Sherlock Jr. (1924), or Partie de campagne (1936) there!
